PTA Sponsored
Each year a legislation program is developed by the Virginia PTA Legislation Committee. The legislation program is then presented to and voted on by PTA members across the state. It represents the 'official' position of the VA PTA on a wide variety of issues affecting children and youth and is the basis for official testimony by the PTA at legislative hearings and before other agencies. The purpose of the Legislation Program is based on the third purpose of PTA which states, "To secure adequate laws for the care and protection of children and youth". |

| Alliance
for Virginia Schools
The new Alliance for Virginia’s Schools is a nonpartisan organization made up of educators, businesses, government officials and parents that has been formed to promote adequate public policy and funding support from the Commonwealth of Virginia. What this means is that the Alliance will be working toward its goals for Virginia’s students by asking every candidate running for the Virginia General Assembly to sign a pledge supporting adequate and appropriate funding for all of Virginia’s public schools. The results of an internal investigation of the General Assembly shows that the state has under funded education by as much as $1 billion. The Alliance goals are smaller classes, sufficient numbers of teachers, competitive salaries, modern classrooms and equipment and evaluation of education at all levels. |
